Ahren Belisle cannot speak, and he is one of the funniest stand ups working. The Canadian comic, who has cerebral palsy, performs by typing into a text to speech app, and the pause while he types became the act's secret weapon, tension building in the silence before the voice lands the punchline. He has said the delay does half the work, and he is right.
A software engineer until a heckle he typed at a Portugal comedy show brought the house down, Belisle went on to earn a Golden Ticket on Kill Tony and a finalist run on America's Got Talent's eighteenth season, with material that is savage about everything, his disability first in line.
The Comedy Zone hosts June 24. Go for the novelty if you must, you will stay because the jokes are simply better than most people's, delivered at the speed of suspense.
