About Bill Bellamy
Thirty Years Past MTV Jams
He put a phrase into the language and it has outlasted almost everything else from that era. Bill Bellamy coined booty call on Def Comedy Jam, turned it into a Showtime special in 1994, and then spent five years as an MTV VJ hosting MTV Jams and the Beach House, interviewing everyone from Kurt Cobain to Janet Jackson. He plays five sets at the Comedy Zone from Friday, September 4 through Sunday, September 6, 2026.
What tends to surprise people is that the club act is the throughline, not the television. He started doing stand up as a student at Rutgers and worked the New York rooms and the Comedy Store before MTV ever called, and he went back to touring after. He also hosted two seasons of Last Comic Standing on NBC, which is a different skill entirely and one that keeps a comic sharp about what actually plays.
Five sets across three nights means you get a real choice of room temperature. Friday and Saturday both run doubles, and the Sunday 6 o'clock is the calmer one. The Comedy Zone is 18 and over and sits in the Music Factory, so park once and make a night of the block.
