The Percolator Still Percolates
Green Velvet helped write the language dance music still speaks. Curtis Jones, a chemical engineering graduate who chose Chicago house over the lab, built two legacies under two names, Cajmere's Percolator, one of the most sampled and revived club records ever cut, and Green Velvet's Flash, a Billboard dance number one, plus the Cajual and Relief labels that carried Chicago's sound worldwide.
Three decades on, the green mohawk remains a global festival fixture, and the sets still split the difference between house history lesson and warehouse mischief, tech house grooves with that unmistakable spoken menace on top.
Blackbox Theater hosts July 24, 18 and up, on the converted cinema's flat floor. When Percolator drops, and it will, the room belongs to 1992.
