Appaloosa Bones came out in 2023 and Gregory Alan Isakov is still touring it, which is either stubbornness or confidence and in his case reads as the second. The record earned a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album and the world tour built around it has kept going long enough to visit most of the planet twice. The current run is not a repeat of the last one. He has been rearranging the catalog for it, digging further into Evening Machines and This Empty Northern Hemisphere than a standard promotional set would bother with, and taking orchestral collaborations where the rooms allow. Long touring cycles let a band stop performing an album and start performing a body of work.

Skyla is the outdoor room at the Music Factory with a raised lawn that looks back at the skyline, and an early October evening is close to ideal for it. This is quiet music in a big space, so the lawn rewards people who actually want to hear it. Arrive before dark if you can. The view is half the ticket.
