The Fray played the very first concert at this amphitheater in June of 2009. In August of 2026 they are back on the same stage with Dashboard Confessional, and in between, the sign out front has read Uptown Amphitheatre, Road Runner Mobile, Time Warner Cable Uptown, Charlotte Metro Credit Union, and now Skyla. Locals long ago gave up and just call it the amphitheater at the Music Factory.
Whatever the name, the layout is the draw. About 2,000 reserved seats sit in front of the stage, with a pit up front for some shows, and behind them the lawn rises instead of falling away, so roughly 3,000 people on the grass get sightlines over the crowd and, once the sun drops, the Uptown skyline glowing behind the stage. It is the rare venue where the cheapest ticket has the best view in town.
It runs April through October, open air and rain or shine, with the winter calendar moving indoors to The Fillmore across the courtyard. Two things first timers learn the hard way, outside lawn chairs stay home (you can rent one there) and the bag policy is clear bags only. Plan to drive or rideshare, eat in the Music Factory, and let the skyline do the encore.

- A pit at the stage for some shows, about 2,000 reserved seats behind it, and then the lawn, which holds around 3,000 and is raised above the seating bowl, so grass tickets still see the whole stage with the Uptown skyline behind it. The chart on this page shows the layout.
- Can you bring lawn chairs to Skyla Amphitheatre?
- No outside chairs. The venue rents lawn chairs on site, and blankets are the usual move on the grass. It is the most common first timer mistake here, so leave the folding chairs in the car.
- What is the bag policy at Skyla Amphitheatre?
- Clear bags only, a clear tote up to about 12 by 6 by 12 inches or a small clutch. Standard for the big outdoor venues now, and the line moves much faster when you carry less.
- What happens if it rains at Skyla Amphitheatre?
- Shows go on rain or shine, and the venue is open air with no roof over the regular seats or the lawn. Pack a poncho, since umbrellas are generally not allowed.

- Skyla holds about 5,000, seats plus lawn, at the Music Factory near Uptown. It is not the same place as Truliant Amphitheater, the 19,500 seat shed in University City that used to be PNC Music Pavilion. Same city, two outdoor venues, very different scale.

- It is a drive or rideshare venue. There is a parking deck across the street and a surface lot beside the venue with event pricing, and no light rail stop is conveniently close, so do not plan on the train.
