Every music city needs the room where you catch a band two years before everyone else does. In Charlotte that is The Underground, the 750 person club at the AvidXchange Music Factory that Live Nation opened in 2016 a few steps from The Fillmore.
It is a standing room club, flat floor, loud system, bar at your back, and the stage close enough to read the set list. The booking leans toward rising acts of every stripe, indie, hip hop, metal, country on the way up, and when an act outgrows it, the bigger room is literally next door. There is an outdoor veranda for air between sets, and the walls carry local art and local beer taps.
Sharing the Music Factory block means the night takes care of itself. Eat and drink in the complex, park once, and if you picked the right show, hold on to the stub, because the next time that act comes through it will probably be at The Fillmore for twice the price.

- Does The Underground have seats or a seating chart?
- It is a standing room club, so for most shows there are no assigned seats, just a flat general admission floor in front of the stage. The floor plan on this page shows the layout. A few seated configurations exist for certain shows, which the ticket page will say.
- How big is The Underground?
- About 750 people at full standing capacity. It is the small sibling of The Fillmore next door, which is the point, you are never far from the stage.
- Is The Underground all ages?
- Many shows are all ages and some run 18 and up, set per show. Check the listing for your date and bring a photo ID for the bar.
- Where do you park for The Underground?
- The Music Factory has lots and decks around the complex, the same parking as The Fillmore. Prepaying saves the line, and rideshare drops you at the block.
- What is the bag policy at The Underground?
- Small bags only is the safe rule, and large backpacks generally stay home. Lighter is faster at the door.
- What is near The Underground?
- The whole Music Factory, The Fillmore next door, the Skyla amphitheater across the complex, and the bars and restaurants in between. There is also an outdoor veranda at the club itself.
