The Label Boss Plays Late
Go down the Carolina Open Air lineup and one name keeps appearing in the fine print rather than the billing. Wakaan is Liquid Stranger's label, and a good share of the weekend's roster records for it. He plays the festival himself and then closes the official afterparty at Blackbox Theater at 11 on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Martin Stääf has been at this longer than most of the people he signs, and his own records wander further than the genre allows, with Balance running thirteen tracks that pull from wherever he happened to be listening. Wakaan is also why bass music has festivals like this one at all, having built the ecosystem the afterparty circuit hangs off.
Blackbox is the converted movie house on Sugar Creek Road, well northeast of Uptown, 18 and up. An 11 o'clock start on the second night of a festival is a specific kind of commitment, and the crowd that shows up for it is usually the best one of the weekend.
