About Lucinda Williams
Lucinda Williams Plays The Carolina
The Carolina Theatre sat dark on North Tryon for nearly fifty years before its 2025 restoration, and the bookings since have leaned toward artists who earn a room like that. Lucinda Williams plays it on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
She opened the year with World's Gone Wrong, her sixteenth album, released in January 2026 on her own Highway 20 label with Mavis Staples, Norah Jones, and Brittney Spencer turning up across it. Nine of the ten songs are hers, and the writing is as unsparing as it has ever been.
Williams has spent forty years refusing to sand the edges off a song, and a seated Uptown hall lets you hear every one of them. Bring the friend who still plays Car Wheels on a Gravel Road front to back.
