Upcoming At The Carolina Theatre

The Carolina Theatre opened in 1927 as a silent picture palace, all Spanish stonework, murals, and wrought iron chandeliers, and spent its first fifty years collecting history. The Charlotte Symphony debuted on its stage in 1932, and Elvis Presley played it in February of 1956. Then in 1978 the doors closed, and the building sat dark on North Tryon for almost half a century while Uptown grew up around it.

The intermission ended in March of 2025. After a 90 million dollar restoration that brought the murals and plasterwork back to their 1920s shine, the theater reopened with about 950 seats across an orchestra level, a balcony, and boxes, modern comfort inside a room that still looks like 1927. It instantly became the most beautiful place in Charlotte to see a show.

The calendar mixes touring artists, comedy, speakers, and film, the kind of booking that fits a seated jewel box. It sits at 230 North Tryon in the middle of Uptown, so the whole center city is your pre show option, and the light rail and Uptown decks handle the getting there. Dress up a little, the room has earned it.

Good To Know Before You Go

What is the Carolina Theatre seating chart like?
A classic theater layout restored in 2025, an orchestra level, a balcony above it, and box and lounge style seats, about 950 in all, every one reserved. The chart on this page shows the layout. There is no general admission here, your ticket has your seat.
Where are the best seats at the Carolina Theatre?
Center orchestra is the classic pick, and in a room this size nothing is truly far away. The balcony front rows hang close and let you take in the restored ceiling and murals, which is half the show.
When did the Carolina Theatre reopen?
March 24, 2025, after a 90 million dollar restoration. It originally opened in 1927, closed in 1978, and sat vacant for almost fifty years before Foundation For The Carolinas brought it back.
Did Elvis really play the Carolina Theatre?
He did, February 10, 1956, in the theater's first life. The Charlotte Symphony also made its debut on this stage in 1932, so the room's history runs deep.
How big is the Carolina Theatre?
About 950 seats, roughly two thirds of its original 1927 size, traded for modern comfort, sightlines, and accessibility in the restoration.
Where do you park for the Carolina Theatre?
It is at 230 North Tryon in the heart of Uptown, so nearby decks and evening street parking are the play, and the light rail gets you within a few blocks. Build in a few extra minutes on busy Uptown nights.
What kind of shows play the Carolina Theatre?
Touring musicians, comedians, speakers, and special film events, the kind of calendar that suits a seated historic theater. It is the room for a show you want to remember, not a mosh pit.
