Sainted Trap Choir

Three weeks before this show, the Sainted Trap Choir stands behind Rick Ross at the Belk Theater as he closes out his Port of Miami anniversary tour, the last of seventeen cities. Then on Friday, September 18, 2026, they headline the Carolina Theatre themselves, a few blocks up the same street. Backing band on August 29, main event in September, both times at home.

They were founded here in 2020 by DJ Fannie Mae and Dennis Reed Jr., and what they do sits where gospel and hip hop overlap, roughly two dozen voices with a band and turntables behind them. The list of what has followed is not a small one. A Golden Buzzer on America's Got Talent Fantasy League, sets at the Super Bowl and the Grammy Awards, and collaborations with Andra Day, Fantasia and Sara Bareilles. Fannie Mae also works as Charlotte FC's DJ, and Reed runs Inspire the Fire, a local youth arts nonprofit, which is the part of the story that stays here between tours.

The room is the other reason to go. The Carolina Theatre sat dark for close to fifty years before its 2025 restoration, in a building where Elvis played in 1956, and it is now one of the best sounding halls Uptown has. Take the Blue Line to 7th Street and skip the parking question entirely. A choir this size in a room that just came back deserves a full house.
