About Marion Meadows
From Grand Central To Middle C
Marion Meadows owes his career to a delayed train. The soprano saxophonist was killing time busking under the dome of New York's Grand Central Station when TV composer Jay Chattaway heard him, made an introduction to keyboard legend Bob James, and set in motion three decades of smooth jazz records, For Lovers Only in 1990 through staples like Player's Club and Soul Traveler.
The Berklee trained West Virginia native plays the soprano sax the way the instrument wants to be played, lyrical and warm, R&B grooves underneath, a little Latin sway when the song calls for it. He has been a format staple for so long because the melodies actually stick.
He settles into Middle C Jazz on June 19, dinner and drinks at the table, two hundred seats. Smooth jazz earns its name in a room like this, book the early reservation and let the evening do its thing.
