One Man, Many Sounds
Shakey Graves started as a literal one man band, Alejandro Rose-Garcia playing guitar and a suitcase kick drum on Austin sidewalks, and grew into one of the most inventive names in modern Americana. The latest album, Fondness, Etc., is a home recorded swerve into avant garde folk, proof he would rather surprise himself than repeat a formula.
Live, the songs stretch and mutate, sometimes solo and stark, sometimes full band and roaring, and the crowd never quite knows which version of a favorite is coming.
