Raleigh's Road Dogs Come West
American Aquarium formed in Raleigh two decades ago and never stopped driving. BJ Barham has burned through enough band lineups and highway miles to fill a memoir, and the songs wear it, blue collar North Carolina storytelling about work, sobriety, family, and staying alive long enough to write the next record.
The band hits the twenty year mark still accelerating, with an eleventh studio album set to be recorded with Shooter Jennings, the producer behind fan favorites Lamentations and The Fear of Standing Still. Barham has even announced a run for political office back home, because apparently the man does not rest.
Neighborhood Theatre hosts August 15, a home state show in a NoDa room built for bands that earn their crowds one night at a time. These are their people.
