Somewhere a booking agent earned a raise, because Big K.R.I.T., whose major label debut was titled Live from the Underground, plays Charlotte in a room named The Underground on June 17. The Meridian, Mississippi rapper and producer has spent fifteen years as the South's conscience and crate digger in one body, writing country rap tunes with soul samples he flips himself.
The catalog rewards devotion, the early mixtape classics, the double album 4eva Is a Mighty Long Time with its self produced sprawl, and a live show built on sweat and conviction rather than spectacle. Singer Kirby opens, adding Mississippi soul to a thoroughly Southern night.
It is a 750 person room for an artist with festival history, which means close quarters and a crowd that knows every word of Country Sh*t. Subwoofers will be tested.
