Chaos You Can Dance To
Dance Gavin Dance built a genre and then outlasted everyone who copied it. Since 2005 the Sacramento band has run on a simple unstable formula, Will Swan's guitar acrobatics, Jon Mess screaming over the top, and a rotating cast of clean singers, Jonny Craig, Kurt Travis, Tilian Pearson, now Andrew Wells, each era feeding the fan debates that keep this band's world spinning. The sound got a name, swancore, after the guitarist himself.
Ten albums in, the catalog is a maze worth getting lost in, and the band keeps feeding it, a third Tree City Sessions live album landed in May of 2026. Live, the contradictions resolve, funk grooves slam into screams, pop hooks ride math rock riffs, and somehow the floor dances through all of it.
The June 10 Fillmore bill is a scene buffet, Horse the Band's nintendocore mayhem, Wolf and Bear, and The Novelists stacked in front. Doors at 6:30 for a reason, this one is four bands deep, and the floor will be packed by the first scream.
