Rhode Island Ghost Stories
Twenty years in, Deer Tick made the most ambitious record of their career by looking inward, at their home. Coin-O-Matic, the band's ninth album and first self produced, digs into the hidden history of Providence, Rhode Island, named for the cigarette machine company that fronted a notorious crime family. It is gritty, literary roots rock about the place that made them.
John McCauley's voice has always carried a lived in rasp, and these songs about working class families and the menace at the edge of town suit it perfectly.
