Charlotte's yacht rock summit docks at Ovens Auditorium on June 27, a triple bill of bands whose songs never left soft rock radio. Pablo Cruise headline with Love Will Find a Way and Whatcha Gonna Do, Southern smooth institution Atlanta Rhythm Section answer with So Into You and Imaginary Lover, and Orleans round it out with Still the One and Dance With Me.
Together that is a night of pure 1970s FM gold, the genre lovingly rebranded yacht rock by a generation that discovered its parents were right. These bands still deliver the harmonies and musicianship the records promised.
Ovens is the appropriate harbor, 2,400 reserved seats and seventy years of acoustics. Captain's hat optional, singing along is not.
