Detroit Techno In The Yard
Stacey Pullen learned techno from the people who invented it. A second wave Detroit originator mentored by Derrick May, Juan Atkins, and Kevin Saunderson, he has spent three decades carrying the city's sound around the world, including classic mid nineties releases under his Kosmik Messenger alias and a DJ schedule that still runs weekly across the globe.
His sets are the deep, soulful end of techno, atmosphere over bangers, grooves that build for minutes instead of seconds, the kind of craft that made Detroit the genre's holy city in the first place.
Which makes the June 12 booking delightfully strange, a world class Detroit selector in the Music Yard's backyard between a taco joint and a barbecue bar in South End. It is an early evening, open air dance floor, and the self pour wall keeps the line short. Take the rail, dance until the yard closes.
