The Music Yard is what happens when South End decides a patio is not enough. Wedged between SouthBound's tacos and Mac's Speed Shop's barbecue and bikes on South Boulevard, it is an open air yard with a stage at one end, room for about 500 people, and a calendar that runs all warm season long.
It is the most casual ticket in Charlotte music. The yard is lawn style hanging out, the indoor bar pours from a self serve beer and wine wall when you want to wander, and the attached Backstage Lounge speakeasy keeps the night going after the band finishes. Booking leans local and regional, party bands, tributes, and the occasional touring act that fits a backyard better than a club.
Treat it as a whole South End evening. Tacos next door before, the show in the yard, barbecue smells drifting over the fence, and the rail trail and the rest of the neighborhood within a few blocks when the music stops. It is less a venue you attend than a backyard you join.
