About Susto
Lowcountry Ghosts Come North
Susto is named for a Latin American folk illness, the fright that knocks your soul loose, and Justin Osborne's Charleston collective has spent a decade writing songs that chase that feeling, Americana steeped in salt air, psychedelia, lapsed religion, and the South's complicated heart. Songs like Acid Boys and Friends, Lovers, Ex Lovers built one of the Carolinas' most devoted followings.
The project shape shifts by season, full rock band one tour, the stripped Susto Stringband the next, and the June 12 Charlotte stop is billed as Susto and Friends, the loose, communal mode where guests wander on stage and the set list goes wherever the night does.
It lands at the Neighborhood Theatre in NoDa, basically a home game, Charleston to Charlotte being family distance. Expect singalongs with the weight of scripture for the people who know, and an easy welcome for the people who do not yet.
