The Cain Center for the Arts opened in January 2023 as the Lake Norman area's first real arts home, a 35,000 square foot building in Old Town Cornelius with a 400 seat theater at its heart, named for local philanthropists Ericka and Bill Cain, whose gift anchored the project.
The theater is modern and steeply raked, every seat with a clear line to the stage, and the calendar mixes touring songwriters, jazz, comedy, family shows, and local productions, with a gallery in the lobby and a public plaza outside that hosts free outdoor concerts in the warm months.
For the towns up I-77, Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville, this is the neighborhood show now, minutes from home instead of a half hour haul to Uptown. Old Town Cornelius has grown restaurants and breweries around it, so the dinner and a show routine works without touching the highway.
